As a teenager during the Second World War, Harry Heasman worked in a factory making Mosquito bomber aircraft and gliders that were used in the D-Day landings.

On Saturday, after a gap of 85 years, he took to the skies for a wing walk above the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, which is home to aircraft from the war, including the Mosquito.
In doing so, he became the oldest man to do a wing walk — his 99th birthday is this week. John Symmonds was the previous holder of the Guinness World Record at 95.
Heasman has been living at Eastham care home in Essex for a year because he could no longer stay at home alone safely. His mobility had declined to the point where he required assistance to climb stairs.
His care home operates a wish programme with their residents and he decided that he wanted to do a wing walk to fulfil a boyhood dream. He told The Times: "When I used to go to the cinema as a boy, I used to see what they called an American flying circus. And I used to think, 'Oh, that looks interesting. I'd love to do that.'"
Karolyn Sisto, the care home's manager, said she was initially "shocked" to hear he was serious about doing this, but assessments were done and although she remained "apprehensive", the team got behind him.
In preparation for the mission he rebuilt his strength, balance and confidence with his physiotherapist, Reef, and can now walk up the stairs independently again, a feat which came in handy for the wing walk because he had to step up to the top of the aircraft.
Sisto said: "We did everything we could to support Harry to do this in a safe kind of way. Every day we've been focusing on his nutrition, his fluid intake. I've been taking his blood pressure every day. We've been encouraging him to go up and down the stairs, which is something he couldn't do a year ago. We've had exercises that he's had to follow from the physio.
"So, collectively, we've all been doing that just to try and get Harry as strong as he can be to undertake this."
The Second World War started when Heasman, from London, was 12 years old. At 14 he left school and worked in a furniture factory that had been repurposed to make gliders and the Mosquito, which was largely made of wood. His brother took part in the D-Day landings. After the war, he was stationed in Germany where he was part of the British Army of the Rhine mostly doing secretarial work for two years.
When he returned home, he did various jobs, working as an engineer, running a country pub then a golf club. He met his wife at a dance hall. Both enjoyed ballroom dancing.
Martyn Carrington, Heasman's pilot from Ethel Dares Wing Walking, said that he was proud to be involved in the project. Heasman was airborne in the 1940s biplane, which reached a height of 1,000m (3,280ft), for about six minutes. Heasman was strapped in and had a perch to lean against.
For his next challenge, Heasman has his sights on completing the London Marathon, pushed by his physiotherapist.
